With the objective to bring children closer to their local heritage, and appreciate the significance of their cultural and historic roots, the UP Tourism collaborates with ITIHAAS to organize the ‘Mera Shahar, Mera Itihaas’ project. It provides school students in various parts of Uttar Pradesh the opportunity to visit the heritage sites in their towns/cities and learn about their role in shaping the regional cultural identity. Through an experiential pedagogical approach, children engage with the built and intangible heritage of these spaces, attend talks by experts and work on student-friendly curricular assignments that consolidates their learning from the field trips. ITIHAAS has helped execute this programme in five cities of Uttar Pradesh, viz. Lucknow, Varanasi, Jhansi, Gorakhpur and Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad), and is exploring more cities and states where it can be extended.
